EYFS News

Read on to find out what we have been up to in Reception this week.

It’s book week this week so we have all been thinking about our favourite book and book characters. Some lovely ideas included Tabby McTat and the character Samuel Sprat because he is loud, and Oi Frog because the frog is really funny! The children have been drawing and writing about their favourite book characters in their writing books. They have been trying really hard to remember to include capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in their writing. We continue with our superhero topic and have been learning about a real life superhero, Mary Fields, who was the first black postwoman in the United States. In our creation station, the children have been making emergency vehicles using junk modelling materials. We also have our very own ‘Superhero Headquarters’ in the learning garden and the children have loved playing the role of superhero and villain! In maths, we have introduced number bonds to 10, which are a pair of numbers added together to make 10. The children continue to use numicons and the part-whole model to compose numbers up to 10. In phonics this week we have been reviewing previously learnt sounds ay, ee, igh and ow.

Key messages

  • Donations of old leggings/trousers, tights and compost would be hugely appreciated.

  • Please continue to give us donations of clean recycling to add to our junk modelling as we use it throughout the year. Egg boxes, small boxes, toilet rolls etc.

  • The flower beds in our learning garden are looking a little sad so we would love to brighten them up. If you would like to donate any bedding plants, such as pansy or primrose or any herbs, they would be gratefully received.
