Read on to find out what we have been up to in Years 3 & 4 this week.

Year 3

This week in Year 3 we have excitedly started a new book in English called ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’. The children demonstrated their incredible drama skills by portraying the emotions of the rich people in the town, who had just been invaded by a huge hoard of rats during their dinner! We have been using our inference skills and practising our use of verbs and adverbs to make our writing more interesting.

Meanwhile, in art this week, we have been mixing primary colours to create secondary colours to paint in a similar style to L.S Lowry. We also learnt the difference between tints, tones and shades. In our Reading lessons this week, we have clearly loved reading the book ‘Anisha- the accidental detective’ and have created some brilliant and informative book reviews, which will be displayed in our reading corners.

Year 4

We have had a very hands on week in Year 4, from creating electrical circuits in science to drawing tunnels in Art. In maths, we have been exploring perimeter. We have created rectilinear shapes using 2D shapes. We the accurately measured them and calculated the perimeter. We were able to show this through various calculations. We have used a range of devices to expand our sentences in English, including parentheses to provide extra information. Whilst exploring the book ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs’, which is an adaptation of the story of the three little pigs, we have used cohesive devices to develop the fluency of our writing. In geography, we have been learning about the formation of Oxbow lakes during the middle course of a river. We looked at the processes of how they develop and offered predictions of what could happen if one formed in London near Canary Wharf. In art we have been exploring depth and perspective trying to create the illusion of 3D objects on a 2D plain. This week, we tried to create the illusion of a tunnel going through our page.
