Reception Update

Come and find out what Reception have been up to!

This week in Reception we continue with our topic ‘All About Me’ and have been looking at the town we live in. We discussed that the children come to The Vineyard School in Richmond and they enjoyed talking about the different things they love doing in Richmond. In phonics we have been learning new sounds g, o, c and k. In maths we have been comparing size, mass and capacity. The children were asked to sort a range of small and big objects by giving them to either the big or small bears. In English the children are learning to recognise rhyming words. We have read Duck in the Truck, Oi Frog and Superworm to support this learning. In our Creation Station the children have been colour mixing paints and experimenting with lots of different colours. We have also used paint bags to practise writing initial sounds using cotton buds.

Key messages

  • Please practice writing and saying the sounds at home, using the sheets and phonics website to help you; the sheets do not need to be returned.

  • As we are reaching the winter months, we are in great need of tissue box donations please.

  • We would also appreciate any donations of compost to make our ‘mud kitchen’ even more fun for the children!

  • To review the phonics sounds that your child has been learning, please visit the phonics website: https://sites.google.com/thevineyardschool.org/phonicsthevineyard/reception

  • A reminder that from after half term, only a navy book bag will be allowed in school. These do not have to have the Vineyard logo on, but they do need to be the same size as the Vineyard book bags.
