School Council

School Council teach the teachers!

This week, the School Council met so we could gain pupil voice to inform our CPD (continued professional development).

Rosenshine’s Principles in action is a researched based approach to highly effective lesson design. Before launching our first session of our 2 year approach in this week’s Twilight, we wanted to gain the children’s thoughts and opinions on the Daily Review as part of their learning. Each lesson in three subjects will include a review slide for the children to retrieve previous learning that informs their new learning in that specific lesson.  Reviewing prior learning is essential in supporting our children in knowing more, remembering more. Therefore, we really wanted to find out from the children themselves their experience of this part of the lesson. The School Council were willing to be the first to try this approach (thank you School Council). After experiencing the review slide, discussion and creating an output of their choice (list, drawing, labelled diagram etc), they were able to feed back the challenges and successes of the review slide. We then shared their output in our training with the teachers (see photos below) – the teachers really enjoyed seeing the children’s work, and it inspired their outcomes when experiencing it too within the training.
