School open as usual Thursday 02/05/19

Categories: School News

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding this morning with the unexpected closure of school. As you know this was due to the fire last night at a nearby hotel and the subsequent road closures. We made the decision to close the school as we could not guarantee that enough staff would be able to attend to ensure safe ratios. Those staff that have been in school today have been working hard on planning and preparation for the children - all other staff have worked from home. We do understand the difficulty that this causes and are extremely grateful for your understanding. We never take such decisions lightly and took advice and support from the Local Authority throughout the day.

I have kept in close contact with the Police and Fire Brigade Commanding Officers and have just been informed that neighbouring roads will be opening this evening therefore school and clubs can operate as normal tomorrow.

New Staff Librarian

Categories: School News

Exciting news: welcome Mrs Cross, new staff librarian! Tues 2nd October Whole school finishes at 1pm for parent teacher consultations. In December 2017, a group of parents and teachers took the initiative to re-imagine the library and position it at the centre of the school life. The shared ambition is that the Vineyard School library becomes a special place for children, families and staff, offering an inspiring collection of books but also a unique space where we can read, relax, think, dream and socialise, both indoors and outdoors. Our news this week is to welcome Mrs Viv Cross to the library! Viv was recruited as the school part time librarian as well as a Teaching Assistant for Y6. Her role includes developing the life of the library in a consistent way, with the aim to make this a vibrant, active space. Mrs. Cross brings a great portfolio of experience which includes working as assistant librarian for Richmond Libraries, a professional career in space design and she is also a school parent. Congratulations Mrs Cross! Parent Teacher Consultations This year children will be attending Parent - Teacher consultations with their parents. Please see the letter sent home for more information. We will be reviewing these consultations with all stakeholders as this is a pilot phase, and will be glad to receive feedback on our new consultation format after these sessions have taken place. 1 Wed, 26th Sep Class & individual school photos Thu, 27th Sep Class & individual school photos Thu, 27th Sep - 6pm Governors’ D&P committee meeting Tue, 2nd Oct - 1pm Whole school closes early Tue, 2nd Oct - 1.30 to 5pm Parent Teacher consultations Thu, 4th Oct - AM only School office closed for School Census Day Thu, 4th Oct - 4 to 7pm Parent Teacher consultations Tue, 9th Oct – 7.30pm PTA AGM Viv and a team of lunchtime volunteers will build on the amazing work of the past volunteering team.
