Madge's Apple Crumble (serves 6)

900g Cooking apples (peeled, cored and sliced)

225g plain/whole wheat flour

75g-100g soft brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to gas 4 /350 degrees F/180 degrees C. Put flour in a large mixing bowl. Rub the butter into the flour using finger tips until it looks crumbly.

Add the sugar and stir to mix in the crumble . Put sliced apples in a pie dish and sprinkle 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar on top.

Spread the crumble evenly on top of the apples, covering well. Cook for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.

Serve with hot custard.
