London Youth Games – Crystal Palace. By Tim, 5B.

On Thursday 30th June I represented the Borough at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace, playing half- court basketball. It was hard work to get into the team and train for an extra two hours at Hampton Jaguars Basketball Club. This was on top of the two hours training I do with Richmond Knights every week and the practice I do between sessions. At the same time it was great fun because I met lots of new friends and improved my game. I was the youngest member of the squad this year and want to compete again. Our team is getting stronger every time we play and next year we plan to bring back a basketball medal.

Richmond won the Jubilee Trophy for the first time in 34 years, by 5 points, beating the other 32 London Boroughs. I attended the presentation evening at The Stoop Rugby Stadium on Wednesday evening, along with all the other teams. We were all presented with a special medal to celebrate Richmond winning the Youth Games for the first time. This Summer I am taking part in the Luol Deng Basketball Camp at Loughborough University. Luol competed in the Youth Games at Crystal Palace when he was 13, he is now the Captain of the Chicago Bulls and Barak Obama’s favourite player as well as being Britain’s highest paid sports person . Next year he will lead the GB Basketball Team at the Olympic Games.
