Year 3

This week in English, we have been writing diary entries from the perspective of a Stone Age boy meeting a woolly mammoth! We have been using 'The First Drawing' by Mordicai Gerstein as our inspiration. In maths, we have continued our practice using column method to add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers, and we have also started learning how to find number bonds to 100. In Science, we have been learning about the properties of objects and categorizing them into transparent, translucent and opaque. Ask your children if they can find some objects from each of these categories around your home! The children had a lot of fun in DT this week learning about the invention of the telephone. They then had a go at making their own using paper cups and string and having conversations with each other outside on the playground. In history, we have learnt about the lifestyles of human hunter-gatherers.

Year 4

We will be writing a non-chronological report about Mars in English next week. To prepare for this we read a book by an astronaut called Curisolity: The Story of a Mars Rover. We have also used laptops to research the different rovers that have safely landed on Mars, you can ask the children about these!

In maths we are looking at area. We have used post- it notes to create shapes and the children have used a range of counting strategies to find out the area of different 2D shapes.

In Science, we have been looking at the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon learning lots of facts about them to understand how we know they are spherical bodies.

In History, we have been learning about whether or not the Romans were successful in invading Britain.
