Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 26th January 2023

Dear families,

This term may be short, but it has certainly been busy. Many of you will have seen the wonderful learning opportunities your children have had this week on our Instagram feed.  Year 1 have been on a plant hunt as part of their science topic. Year 6 are learning about refraction and how it can make things look distorted, as light travels through water. For reception, it is all about the number 7, and they have made the number block 7, and year 4 have been measuring various items on the playground in maths. This is not to forget that the children in year 3 now know about the different types of rock, year 2 have learnt about types of housing in geography and year 5 have been searching for information on the web in computing.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the events coming up this week:

  • Feedback and marking workshop for families, Wednesday 31st at 2.30pm
  • Open classrooms, Wednesday 31st, 3.15-3.45pm
  • PTA meeting Wednesday 31st, 8pm - Come and find out what events the PTA has planned for the rest of the year, and discuss what the school has asked us to raise money for in the future.  We hope to capture your ideas, hear your views, and talk about major projects for improving our school, including improving the usability of the fantastic field and grounds.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do speak to me at the gate or email me. I will come back to you as soon as I can.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Frances Bracegirdle

Attendance

Well done to all the year groups getting above 96%!!

Punctuality

Unfortunately, this week no classes got zero lates and therefore a slice of pizza on their chart. The children have been spoken to about the importance or being on time to school. Please note, if they arrive after 8:45, they are marked as late.

Considerate Parking

Most families who drive to school are very considerate and think about where they park. Unfortunately, one of our neighbours came to school to complain about a family who had parked inconsiderably. The school has advised them that they should contact the council about this.

Extended Day Provision Review

We are reviewing the current offer we have with wrap around care. Your views are very important to ensure that what we offer caters to as many families needs as possible.

Please note, the times are all suggestions at this point and may vary but have been designed to work around our current extra-curricular offer.

Please complete this form by 2nd February.

Safeguarding

Mrs Bracegirdle and I met with our school police officer- PC Basha today. We discussed the issues with the road in the mornings- parking and congestion. We booked him in to speak to Y4 and Y5 children around stranger danger. He will also be doing a session Y1 and Y2 children about the role of the police and how they are not scary! These sessions will all be in the Summer term and we are looking forward to these.

Teaching and Learning at The Vineyard

Religious Education (RE) Curriculum Workshop

This week, we held a family workshop to introduce our new RE curriculum. Mary Horsley, our RE Lead, worked incredibly hard last term to design a bespoke Vineyard RE curriculum. You may not be aware that there is no National Curriculum for RE,. Instead, we are required to follow the guidelines from a local syllabus created for Richmond. Key knowledge from the Richmond Syllabus was selected to create a curriculum with clear progression from the Early Years to Year 6. The children will be learning about the seven major world religions through themes, skills and enquiry questions. If you were unable to attend the workshop, please click here to view the slides.

As part of the children’s RE learning, we would love to welcome families into school to share their experiences and celebrations. You could come and talk to your child’s class or send in some photos of the celebrations for your child to share with their friends in class. Please get in touch if you are interested.

We understand that some families may have different views about certain aspects of RE teaching and learning. We would urge you to come and talk to us to discuss any comments or concerns you may have around the content of our new RE curriculum. If there is an upcoming lesson topic, trip or workshop that you do not want your child to take part in, please email Mrs Bracegirdle in advance, using headteacher@vineyard.richmond.sch.uk to request that your child doesn’t join.
