Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 17th May 2024

Dear families,

I am incredibly proud of the way all our year 6 children have approached their SATs this week. They've been calm (on the outside at least) and have taken a very mature attitude towards the tests in grammar, punctuation & spelling, reading and maths. Well done to each and every child!

Next Thursday, at 8.45am, there is an opportunity for you to come in and see your child's books. Following this, there is a maths workshop hosted by Mr Jackson, which hopefully many of you will be able to attend.

As we are approaching half-term, I have been thinking about the different trips that the children have been on this term. Year 3 went to Hampton Court Palace for history and Kew Gardens as part of their art curriculum, Year 5 visited the Globe Theatre to support their English learning on Shakespeare and Year 4 had a PE lesson at the Marble Hill adventure park. Next week, Reception will be going to an urban farm. On top of these opportunities, Year 2 have had scooter training and Year 5 are learning how to debate next week! Year 1 are going to Brooklands museum after half-term and a trip is being planned for our GEMS children. These trips are all made possible due to the financial donations families make to the school. Thank you for enabling us to provide an enriched curriculum.

If you haven't had a chance yet, please take some time this weekend to complete The Vineyard Family Survey to help us make school be the best it can be. Click the link here. The deadline is Thursday 23rd May. Thank you!

It was fantastic to see so many of you at the May Fair on Saturday. Thank you to those who donated delicious home-made cupcakes which flew off the stall. This Saturday’s school event is all about football and family fun, taking place on the school site (see PTA section below). We can’t wait to see as many families join us as possible.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

Frances Bracegirdle

Teaching and Learning at The Vineyard

Classroom Book Corners

Every classroom at The Vineyard has a book corner, and we have worked hard in recent years to create cosy, inviting areas to encourage our children to read and to love reading. Following updated guidance from The Reading Framework, we have focused on improving the quality of the books so that ‘every book is worth reading or helps pupils to put in the reading miles’. We want our book corners to be mini bookshops with high quality, age-appropriate, accessible books on offer for the children. The teachers have sorted through their books and selected a range that is now sorted into categories, such as short reads, longer reads, poetry, non-fiction, picture books etc. This categorising will help the children select a book without feeling overwhelmed by the amount of choice or by the length of the book.

Considerate Parking

The school has been sent photographs of illegal parking on Terrace Lane and a car which parked over a drive for 20 minutes. We are going to have no choice but to publish the photos if this continues.

Please be mindful of our neighbours when parking.

Advance warning: Roadworks in the area next week so the roads will be busy!

Do you have an unwanted adult bike?

See this poster here. The West Middlesex Hospital are collecting unwanted adult bikes to recirculate them by giving them to NHS key workers and others in need. So far, they have recirculated 313 bikes!

Open Water Dangers

Please see the letter here that has been circulated by the Met Police about the dangers of open water.

Sir David Attenborough

Happy Birthday wishes to Sir David Attenborough. Some of our year 5 children made a card and delivered it to David. He sent them a handwritten reply. He was clearly very touched by their thoughtfulness.

For those who don't know, Sir David Attenborough opened our school on its present site in June 1993.

School Emails going to families' junk folder

You will have seen some information about how to whitelist the school domains for gmail email accounts. I now have some information about how to do this for other email providers here.

We really encourage you to do this, as many emails are going into junk folders.

Photo Consent Form - a message from the office

Thank you for completing the previous Data Update form. However, we had to revise the options on the photo consent section due to feedback from families and amendments on safeguarding procedures. We would kindly ask your cooperation to complete the updated photo consent form here.

If the form is not completed and returned to us by 24th May, we will assume your consent to use photos and videos has been given.

Class Photos - June 6th 2024

Please see the information here about how to access the class photos here.
