Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 20th January 2023

Dear all families,

I hope you have all had a good week.

It's been another action packed week at school with a huge range of learning taking place from climate zones in geography, investigations about materials in science, shot-put & swimming in P.E., listening to stories in the library and creating collage art in the style of Henri Matisse. As for the staff, we have been revisiting our learning on Ebbinghaus's forgetting curve which suggests that people tend to continually halve their memory of newly learnt knowledge in a matter of days or weeks unless they actively review the learnt material. We are using this research to help us develop how we teach your children so that the know more and remember more.

In our assemblies this week Mrs Bracegirdle read the story 'Ada Twist Scientist' to help bring to life our school value 'curious'. For those who don't know Ada persistently asks question after question about the world around her - she is an extremely curious girl.

We are looking forward to inviting you in to school, so your children can show you what they have been learning this term, on 03.02.23 between 3.15 and 4.15pm.

Please try and come to the e-safety workshop, next week on Thursday. Peter Cowley has a wealth of knowledge on this ever more important topic! Book a place here.

Wishing you a lovely weekend where hopefully the sun will continue to shine.

From,

All at The Vineyard

Attendance

The attendance is looking far better this week, well done to the children for coming into school every day! The best attendance this week is year 1! Also, well done to all the year groups that got above our goal of 96%.

Safeguarding

E-Safety workshop for parents Thursday 26th January at 6:45pm. This is a valuable workshop. Please book a place here.

The NSPCC have a new campaign giving practical advice to adults if they have concerns about the child. The campaign is called 'Listen Up, Speak Up' and you can find out more here.

Would you like to help fund a new bench?

We are reviewing our outdoor offer for children and would like some more benches for lunchtimes. The school budget is very tight at the moment. We have decided to ask if any families would like to partially/fully fund a bench and then a plaque can be created with your families name. There are two different types that we would like: Type 1  costs £732 and Type 2  costs  £304.

Interested? Please email Miss McArdle for more information.

Volunteer Training

If you would like to be a volunteer at The Vineyard, you first need to attend the training (it takes less than 30 minutes). The next session run by Miss McArdle is on 08.02.23 at 9am. If you can attend, please sign up here.

Creative Arts' Week - Week Commencing 20th March

We are asking parents for a voluntary contribution for some of the events and resources taking place during this week. The payments are available on Pay360. Unfortunately, if we do not receive enough payments we will have to cancel some of the events planned during this week.

Spark! School Book Awards

Here are the four book shortlists for each award category. If you are able to and would like to buy any of these books for our library we would be very grateful, and the children will benefit from this. You can also find these on their social media accounts, or on our dedicated category pages: Picture Fiction for Early Readers   Ages 7+ fiction   Ages 9+ fiction   Poetry
