Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 27th February, 2023

Dear all families,

The week started with the new school council introducing themselves in assembly. They confidently explained their role to the children. The first priority is to try and improve lunchtimes so over the next couple of weeks they are going to conduct a survey. This will allow us to know more about what different children would like to improve their lunchtime. Once the survey is completed the councillors will bring it to the leadership team.

Thank you to those parents who have donated money to 'buy a bench' for the playground. We know that not all children want to run around and that some want to sit, play games, draw or just have a chat. We will purchase these items as soon as we can.

All Vineyard staff received some extremely valuable CPD yesterday delivered by Peter Cowley who is the online safety advisor for Richmond. It was extremely insightful. He also delivered a parent workshop last night. Here are the slides which we recommend you all look at as they are full of lots of very good tips for keeping our children safe online. For us the key point is to make sure the correct parent controls are set with passwords the children can't crack!

Children's Mental Health Week will take place from 6th February and this year's theme is Let's Connect. There will be assemblies on this theme with further discussion in class.

Looking forward to seeing many of you at the curriculum workshop (art, history  & geography) and open classroom event next Friday see below.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Upcoming Strike- 1st Febuary

As you know, there is a teacher strike on Wednesday 1st February. Please check here for an updated list of classes which will be closed. The school and governors recognise that this does have an impact on our families but also support our teachers’ right to take industrial action.  Teachers are not obliged to let us know if they intend to strike but have chosen to do so in this instance allowing us to notify you in good time.

Attendance

Well done to Year 1, 3, 4 and 5 for all achieving attendance above 96% Keep it up!

Research Project

We have been approached once more by Nik Steinbeis from University College London to collaborate on a research project. For more information, please see here.

Art

When you visit your child's classroom next Friday please do look in the sketch books.

Please send an old large t-shirt/shirt into school for your child to use during art lessons in order to prevent their school uniforms being ruined.

Adult Second Hand Bike

One of our very hardworking members of staff had their bike stolen from the school site during the Summer holidays. Does anyone have a second hand bike they would be willing to donate? If so, please contact the school office.

Uniform

Please remember that on non- PE days your child/ren should be wearing school uniform which includes school shoes - no trainers or boots.

Virtual Tour

We would love to film a virtual tour of our school to include interviews from children and adults. The quotes coming in are so expensive. Is there anyone out there who has the expertise to help us? If so, please contact Frances Bracegirdle.

Food Bank

Some children in Year 3 have decided to set up a collection of food for homeless people. This is happening on Friday 3rd February before school. The stall will be set up between 8:30 and 8:45 on the drive. The things they need the most are:

  • CUSTARD
  • RICE PUDDING
  • LONG LIFE JUICE
  • TINNED MEAT
  • LONG LIFE MILK (SEMI-SKIMMED)
  • TINNED FRUIT
  • JAMS AND MARMALADE, INCLUDING MARMITE AND PEANUT BUTTER
  • WASHING UP LIQUID
  • SHAVING FOAM
  • SQUASH (ORANGE, BLACKCURRANT ETC)

Any donations are hugely appreciated.
