Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 6th January 2023

Dear all families,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely break.

We've hit the ground running at school with the curriculum. To give you a flavour: year 3 are learning about rocks in science; year 4 have learnt the days of the week in french; Year 2 are studying the UK in geography; year 1 are counting in twos; its measurement in year 6; seasons in reception and The Tempest in year 5.  Hopefully you have seen some pictures of these lessons on our instagram feed.

The children in year 6 have elected the school council and green team ambassadors. They will be announced next week.

This term we are running some in person parent workshops:

  • Behaviour policy and emotion coaching - 7pm on 11.01.2023- more information below
  • E-safety (how to keep your children safe online), This will be run by Peter Cowley, the borough advisor, and will be very insightful and useful - 6.45pm on 26.01.2023
  • Curriculum workshop - art, history & geography - 2pm followed by an opportunity to look in your child/ren's books 3.15-4.15pm on 03.02.2023

Have a lovely weekend.

Weekly Attendance Update

Well done to all those who came back to school on the first day back. As you can see the attendance data for this week is a lot lower than usual and the government expectation which is 96%. A gentle reminder to only take holidays during the term time. During the term time, any children who miss the beginning or end of term miss valuable learning and all absences are unauthorised unless a child is unwell and proof is received.

We need your help! Are there any budding artists or graphic designers out there?

As you know we have changed our school values this year to: caring, curious and courageous. We need some help to find some inspiration for how we can make them visual. If you think you may be able to help, please contact headteacher@vineyard.richmond.sch.uk

Music - Exciting news!

We are now a 'Music Mark School' which is a recognition of our commitment to providing a high-quality music education for all children. A huge well done and thank you to Lily Bracegirdle and all who have supported her. Examples of music at The Vineyard include: music lessons taught by a specialist, Richmond Music Trust instrument lessons and orchestra, KS1 & KS2 choirs, Christmas concerts & nativity plays to name jut a few.

Parent Workshop- Behaviour

Wednesday 11th January at 7pm

Mrs Axbey will be holding a parent information evening at school. This will be focussing on our revised Positive Behaviour Policy and the strategy of Emotion Coaching, which underpins behavioural approaches at school. We hope that you can come along and please book  a place via Eventbrite so that we know numbers. This will be based in the school hall.

Help Needed!

A child booster seat is needed. If you have one you don't need please email amcardle@vineyard.richmond.sch.uk

We need scrap paper/old colouring books for the children to use at lunchtime. If you have any. please drop it to the school office.

We would like some parent volunteers for the library at lunchtime. If you can help, please get in touch with the office.

Term Dates

We have now uploaded the term dates on our website here for the next academic year. Please check the term dates before you book any holidays. All holidays booked in term time will be unauthorised.

Did your child miss their flu vaccination?

Catch up flu jabs are being offered! Please see here for more information.

Safeguarding

Reminder- Children are now not allowed to wear smartwatches to school unless for health reasons. If they are wearing a smartwatch, they will have to take it off and the teacher will look after it until the end of the day.

Safeguarding

We have created a child friendly safeguarding poster for children. This is so they know who they can talk to if they have a worry. Please take a look and also discuss this with your child at home.
