Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 12th June 2026

Dear Families,

I was very fortunate to spend two days in Liddington with Year 6 on their PGL residential this week. The children were a credit to the school and represented Vineyard brilliantly. It was wonderful to see so many children being courageous and stepping outside their comfort zones to try activities that they initially found daunting, such as climbing and the trapeze. They supported one another, persevered when things felt difficult and, by the end of the trip, many had achieved things they did not think they could do. I was incredibly proud of them all.

A huge thank you to the staff who gave up their evenings and time away from their own families to make the trip possible. Residential visits are a huge commitment, and the children benefited enormously from their care, encouragement and enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, back at school, our Year 1 children have been completing their Phonics Screening Check, while last week our Year 4 pupils took part in the Multiplication Tables Check. Thank you to all the staff for their hard work in preparing the children so well, and to families for the support you provide at home. Your partnership makes a real difference.

Although we are approaching the end of the school year, there is still plenty to come, including our Festival of Sport and a number of exciting trips and events. The summer term is always one of the busiest and most enjoyable times of the year, and we are looking forward to making the most of the weeks ahead.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes,

Frances Bracegirdle

Behaviour Policy Update

As a staff team, we have decided that when children make unexpected choices and need to be referred to SLT, they will use this time to complete a reflection sheet. This will provide them with an opportunity to reflect on what happened, why it happened, and what they can do differently next time. If a child is referred to SLT, families will be contacted and a copy of the reflection sheet will be sent home. We believe this will make the process more purposeful and align more closely with the principles of emotion coaching and restorative practice that underpin our behaviour policy.

Parent Survey

Many thanks to all those families who have completed the family survey.  We have had 205 responses, which makes us confident that this reflects the views of many of our school community.  The school and governors will be thinking about the messages in this survey over the next few weeks and will feedback the findings to you as soon as we can.

Celebrating Cultural Diversity Assembly Global Unity in Sports: World Cup 2026 Stock Illustration - Illustration of teamwork, unity: 426978877

This week, in our Celebrating Cultural Diversity assembly, we thought about the World Cup. The children explored and discussed different countries, flags, and nationalities, learning about the rich diversity that makes our world so special.

We discovered that while countries may have different traditions, languages, and flags, there are many similarities that connect us all—such as a love of sport, teamwork, and celebration. It was wonderful to reflect on how football brings people together from all over the world, allowing them to connect, communicate, and share joy, even when they speak different languages.

Through this learning, we were reminded that while countries, flags, and nationalities help us celebrate where we come from, it is kindness, respect, and friendship that truly help us connect with people everywhere.

Fieldwork Day

Our annual Fieldwork Day gave pupils the opportunity to explore their local environment through a range of exciting geographical enquiries, and we think the day was a huge success! Reception investigated the best location on the school grounds for a minibeast habitat, while Year 1 visited Terrace Gardens to identify and map human and physical features before creating journey sticks around the school. Year 2 surveyed local roads in Richmond, recording building types and producing annotated maps, and Year 3 explored the riverside, gathering evidence to evaluate potential locations for a new bridge and investigating how existing crossings are used.

Further up the school, Year 4 focused on Richmond Riverside, observing human activity and surveying local residents to learn more about how the riverfront is used. Year 5 became sound investigators, collecting data on different types of noise at several locations and comparing their findings. Meanwhile, Year 6 carried out a detailed enquiry in Richmond Park, examining what makes an effective cycle path by studying terrain, wildlife, obstacles and user experiences before presenting their conclusions through mapped routes and evaluations.

It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning that brought geography to life for all year groups. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who came along to help, and well done to the children for applying their geographical knowledge to the local area and producing some fantastic work.
