Read on to find out about what has been happening in years 3 & 4.
Year 3
What a lovely and busy first few weeks we have had this half term so far! The children are definitely ready for the last half term of this year, full of enthusiasm for lots of trips, topics and learning before the summer holidays.
One of the highlights so far has been our geography field trip. The children were incredibly brave and excited as they collected information from members of the public about the proposal for a new bridge in Richmond. They were true geographers, confidently gathering data, asking thoughtful questions, and presenting their findings. We were so proud of their maturity and curiosity throughout the trip.
In English, the children have been writing beautiful descriptions of Rhodopis from The Egyptian Cinderella. Their work is full of powerful adjectives and imaginative similes. We have been particularly impressed by comparisons such as Rhodopis being "as lonely as the moon" and descriptions of her beauty "spreading like wildfire." Their creativity and growing confidence as writers have been wonderful to see.
In maths, we have been learning how to tell the time and understand duration. The children have been practising reading analogue clocks and working out how long activities last. It would be hugely beneficial to try this at home by asking your child to read the time throughout the day, estimate how long everyday activities take, and calculate the duration between two times. For example, "If we leave at 3:15pm and arrive at 4:00pm, how long was our journey?".
In PE, we have begun preparing for the Festival of Sports. The children are enjoying developing their skills and teamwork, and we are looking forward to the exciting event ahead.
We are also very excited for our class assemblies next week and cannot wait to share some of the fantastic learning that has taken place so far this term.
Thank you for your continued support.

Year 4
It has been a busy, fun week, as we returned to an action-packed schedule. We had barely heard about the children’s half term, before it was time to dash outside - between showers - and strike a pose for our class photo. Look out for the proof!
A huge well done to the children for all their hard work in the MTC. They approached the check with confidence and calmness, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
The children also took part in an exciting geography fieldwork day, investigating how the River Thames is used in our local area. Luckily, the rain stopped just in time and the sun shone as they made detailed observations. In the afternoon, they used their findings to create informative and creative posters.
Reading has continued with the ever-popular The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, but English has a new text: Into the Volcano. The children made some wonderful posters from pages of the book to recap their understanding and find facts on volcanoes.
We've been having a great time in maths this week. The children have been developing their understanding of both 12-hour and 24-hour clocks, learning how to read, write and convert. Although the time is up on this topic, as next week we are moving onto triangles, we encourage continued practice of telling the time in everyday life, as this has been a more challenging area for some children.
Science has been full of energy this week! The children have been exploring electricity and investigating whether different electrical devices are powered by mains electricity, batteries, or both. There were plenty of thoughtful discussions and lively debates as the children shared their ideas. Working together, they successfully identified a wide range of devices and developed their understanding of how electricity powers the technology we use every day.
The children have travelled back in time to AD 410, beginning an exciting journey into the world of the Anglo-Saxons and discovering what life was like in Britain after the Romans left. This week, they have become archaeologists and observed ancient artefacts that were discovered in Suffolk from Anglo-Saxons. They made some brilliant predictions about the owner of the items! Next, they will be looking at the beliefs that Anglo-Saxons followed.

Important Note: Year 4 have started the PSHE topic 'changing me'
In Year 4, we have started our PSHE topic ‘changing me’. The children may return home with questions – so please find below the key words and knowledge that children will learn during the term. We do welcome questions and the children are naturally curious – but we do not teach beyond this curriculum content in year 4. Our message is ‘You will learn more about this in future years. You can speak to your families and they may choose to answer questions, or they may leave this until it’s covered in school.’
