Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 24th March 2023

Dear all families,

It has been a very exciting week at school this week. On Thursday many children have attended an opera workshop, run by two classically trained singers, exploring fairy tales in opera. This culminated in an informal performance to the children in Year 3. There has also been a dance workshop, a singing workshop run by two musicians based on the musical Evergreen and Year 5 visited The Globe Theatre.

A group of our children represented The Vineyard by taking part in the borough singing festival on Wednesday at The Rose Theatre in Kingston. Our children really did us proud - their behaviour was exemplary and the hard work they put into their rehearsals really paid off. I would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Bracegirdle for ensuring our children were ready to perform and Miss Bryan-Kerr for supporting the trip.

I hope you all enjoyed the Art Exhibition today which showcased the work your children have done in art and design during the week. The children have really enjoyed our first creative arts' week which was brilliantly organised by Miss Taylor, Mrs Boyce, Miss Finn and Miss Bracegirdle.

After such a busy week the children are ready for the weekend.

Safeguarding Update

The staff have been completing a quiz on the Keeping Children Safe in Education policy. This is to inform our future bite size training for staff. Children are in turn more aware of what to do when they have a worry and know who our safeguarding leads are. If you have any questions or concerns around safeguarding. please contact me.

Teaching and Learning Update

This half-term, our Maths Lead, Mr Jackson, has led on the monitoring of feedback and marking in Maths. ‘Think pink’ is a form of marking that The Vineyard teaching staff use in children's books when asking a child to re-visit specific learning or to set an individual next step that provides stretch and challenge. Children have enjoyed responding to these questions in maths. As part of this week’s continued professional development, we have been able to celebrate the children’s responses to their ‘think pink’ challenges and here are some examples that stood out this week.

Friday 31st March- Wear a Hat Day

We have a child in school with a personal interest in this fantastic project and would like to raise as much money as we can. We will be showing off our hats and maybe Easter bonnets, when we shake buckets at the gate, and you are also able to donate via Pay360. The children can wear a favourite hat or cap, make an Easter bonnet or even choose a fancy hairband, as of course can you! More information can be found here.

Spring is coming

Thank you to Ms Collier for all the hard work she is doing to improve our school grounds. Now spring is coming we are starting to see the results of her efforts . There are a few helping hands from the children she supports.

Yerar 6 E-Safety workshop

Following great feedback from our parent talk with Peter Cowley (AfC online safety advisor), we have asked him to come in to work with our Year 6 children and parents.

He will be coming in on Monday 27th March at 9am. All Year 6 parents are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting.

PTA - WhatsApp guidelines

The PTA is happy to release the official guidelines on how to use the Class WhatsApp groups. These groups can be extremely helpful when used wisely, following some sensible rules, as detailed on the link.

Everyone has to keep in mind that these class groups pull together parents from different cultural backgrounds, and you should always use respectful language and think of the cultural sensitivity of other members.
