Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Friday 22nd June 2023

Dear all families,

The fair last week was a huge success. I very much enjoyed the afternoon and felt the strength of our community really shone through. Children were happily running around and enjoying all the activities and treats available while adults tried to keep up with them but also had time to chat to other families. It is events like this that really show what a great school The Vineyard is. Thank you to anyone who played a part in making the afternoon a success.

Many children have visited the Barnes Literary Festival this week and had a wonderful time. I felt very proud to hear that due to the number books the children in Year 1&2 bought books they sold out! They really are growing into avid, curious readers who love books.

The excitement is building for the final of the X factor. Miss McArdle, Ms Reilly and Miss Bracegirdle were blown away by the quality of the entries. I have heard that it was very difficult to choose the finalists. Well done to everyone who has taken part.

There are a new set of teacher strikes on 5th and 7th July. Please see the letter sent out to all families about which classes are closed. Due to these strikes, the Year 3 & 4 festival of sport is changing to Tuesday 4th July 9:30-11am.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Frances Bracegirdle

Safeguarding

Definition of bullying:  The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power.

If you feel your child is being bullied, please contact myself (Miss McArdle) via email: amcardle@vineyard.richmond.sch.uk so that this can be investigated.

STEM WEEK! - 26TH June – 30th June

STEM dress up day and science fair– Friday 30th!

The children could think about what they have been learning in science and/or maths this year in class and choose an element of a lesson to inspire their outfit (e.g. a labelled plant with key vocab, a magnet, a calculator, weighing scales etc.)

Here are some ideas on how the children can dress-up: represent a scientific theory, discovery, a number, mathematical symbol/shape.

STEM at home this week

We can’t wait to see the science you have been up to at home - science at home during STEM week – 26th to 30th June

At home, during STEM week, children can carry out their own scientific investigations to bring in for the STEM fair on Friday 30th of June. The theme of this year’s STEM week is connections – please see this link for more information on the theme and the experiments you could carry out at home https://www.britishscienceweek.org/the-theme-for-2023-connections/

Children can bring their projects in on the morning of Friday 30th to their classroom and these will be displayed outside classrooms after pick up for all The Vineyard community to see and explore.

Important re safeguarding: Please remember that pick up on Friday 30th is the same as usual. Once your child has been dismissed, that you are aware of where your child/ren is/are at all times.

Thoughtful Parking

Please can I remind you to park carefully at drop off and pick up. Some cars are being parked on the corner of Cardigan Road on double yellow lines. I do understand that parking, particularly in the morning, is difficult, but it would be awful if there was an accident one day because of careless parking. I strongly advise you park up to 10 minutes walk away where it will be less busy and walk the last bit. Thank you for helping making the roads safer for our children.

Bikes and Scooters on the Drive

A gentle reminder that children should not be on their bikes or scooters at any point on the school site. This is for health and safety reasons.

Attendance

Another great week. Well done to Years 1-6 for all having attendance above 96%! And congratulations to Year 1 - 99.9% is amazing closely followed by Year 4 and then Year 3.

Teaching and learning- Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education at The Vineyard

Alongside our newly adapted ‘Changing Me’ unit, as part of our PSHE curriculum this half-term, below is a list of book recommendations. These are linked to the unit for families to read with their children to act as talking points for further discussion. This is not an expectation, but to support those families who would like additional guidance on these topics. Please do see our PSHE curriculum on the school website to find the areas that your child will be learning about. This may also help you with your book choice at home.

If you need any further support with this, please do contact your child’s class teacher who will be happy to answer any questions regarding the content of your child’s ‘Changing Me’ lessons.

We will be having class parties on Monday 17th July in the afternoon. Please can families donate chopped fruit, cupcakes, juice (no pop)  and popcorn. Please liaise with the class reps on this so that we get a balanced donation for each class.

On this day, children can wear party clothes or their own clothes.

End of the School Year Message-

As we approach the end of the Summer term, if your child be moving to a different school please contact Rose Dinc (our admissions officer) on rdinc@vineyard.richmond.sch.uk as you will need to provide some documentation otherwise a child may be seen as 'missing in education'.
