Caring Curious Courageous

Enabling all children to learn and grow

Wednesday 15th July 2026

Dear families,

As we reach the end of another wonderful school year, I have found myself reflecting on just how much there is to celebrate. It has been a year filled with achievement, growth and countless moments that have reminded me what a privilege it is to lead such an incredible school community.

One of the highlights of this final week was undoubtedly our Year 6 production of The Lion King. The confidence, talent and joy our children brought to the stage was simply outstanding. My heartfelt thanks go to the staff who worked so tirelessly behind the scenes to make the production such a memorable success. Most of all, I feel immensely proud of our Year 6 children. As they prepare to leave The Vineyard for secondary school, they are truly showing that they are ready to fly the Vineyard nest. They leave us as happy, confident young people who embody our values of being caring, courageous and curious. They have embraced opportunities, shown resilience when faced with challenges and are well prepared for the exciting journey ahead. We wish them every success as they begin this next chapter.

Another very special moment this week was joining our Reception children for their Graduation celebration on the school field. Watching them proudly mark the end of their very first year at school was a wonderful reminder of just how much our children grow during their time with us. Seeing our youngest children celebrating alongside thoughts of our oldest pupils preparing to leave perfectly captured the journey that children make at The Vineyard.

From Reception through to Year 6, every child has made their own unique journey this year, striving to achieve their personal best and demonstrating what it truly means to thrive. Whether through academic achievement, sporting success, musical performances, creative arts, acts of kindness or simply growing in confidence, every child has contributed to making this another fantastic year. I want to say a huge well done to all of our children. You continue to amaze us with your enthusiasm, determination, curiosity and kindness, and we are incredibly proud of every one of you.

Many of you will also have seen the announcement from our Chair of Governors last week that I will be stepping down as Headteacher at the end of the Spring Term in Easter 2027. This has been an incredibly difficult decision and one that has come with very mixed emotions. While I am excited about taking some time to recharge, visit my daughter in Sydney and reflect on what I would like to do next, deciding to leave The Vineyard has not been easy.

Although there is still plenty of time before I say goodbye, I already know I will leave feeling enormously proud of everything we have achieved together. Over the years, we have strengthened teaching and learning, developed a truly bespoke curriculum that reflects the needs of our children, and embedded our vision and values so that they are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we have created a school where children are encouraged to thrive, aim for their personal best and develop into caring, courageous and curious young people who are well prepared for the future.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the exceptional staff team, the support and challenge of our governors, the wonderful children and the overwhelming support I have received from the vast majority of our parent community throughout my time as Headteacher. Thank you for your kindness, encouragement and partnership. It has been a privilege to work alongside you in helping our children flourish.

I want to assure you that my focus remains very much on leading The Vineyard through another successful year before I leave at Easter 2027. I look forward to continuing to work with our staff, governors, families and, most importantly, our incredible children as we build on all that makes The Vineyard such a special place.

Finally, I would like to wish all of our children, families and staff a wonderful, restful summer holiday. Thank you for another memorable year. I hope you enjoy spending time together, making special memories and returning in September refreshed, ready for another exciting year of learning and thriving together.

Governor's Report to Families Summer 2026

Governors are responsible for the strategic leadership and direction of the school. We focus on ethos, strategy, policy, budgeting, and staffing, working alongside senior leaders to provide an excellent, well-rounded education for our pupils.
The Vineyard’s Governing Board is made up of 13 governors: the headteacher; two parent governors; a local authority governor; one staff governor and eight co-opted governors (in our case several of whom are also parents at the school). Our current board members and a brief profile of each of them can be found on the school website.

Please see this link for the full report.

FAMILY SURVEY RESULTS 2026

Many thanks to all those families who completed our annual family survey. 205 parents completed the survey for 241 children, which means that we can be confident that the survey results reflect the views of a significant proportion of the school families. This is a very important survey for the school and tells us what we are doing well and what we still need to work at.

We are very encouraged that the survey results show strong confidence in many aspects of the school’s work, while also highlighting some clear areas where parents would like us to improve. The dissolution of the PTA has had an impact on the survey responses and I do hope that we can find a way to rebuild our school community.

Please see this link for further feedback.

We are saying goodbye to a couple of our wonderful teaching assistants.

Sivanna Sherry

After nine wonderful years at the school, I am preparing to move on to train to become a counsellor. I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the children, families, and members of our school community for making my time here so special. It has been a privilege to be part of such a caring and supportive school, and I will take many happy memories with me.

Raveena Warah

As I say goodbye after six wonderful years, I just want to say a huge thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of The Vineyard School. It has been a privilege to watch the children learn, grow, laugh, and achieve so much, and being part of their journey has been incredibly special. Leaving is very bittersweet, and I will miss the smiles, laughter, and everyday moments more than words can say.  I wish all of the children every happiness and success for the future. They will always hold a very special place in my heart. Thank you for making the last six years so unforgettable. Miss Warah

We would like to thank both Sivanna and Raveena for all their hard work at The Vineyard and wish them all the best with their new adventures.

A Smooth Transition for September

Over the last two weeks, the children and staff have been busy with transitions for next year. These transition sessions have been highly successful, giving children the opportunity to become familiar with their new surroundings. They have enjoyed meeting their new classmates, getting to know their teachers and support staff, and exploring new spaces within the school. These experiences help to reduce anxiety and build excitement, making the return to school feel like a natural and enjoyable step forward.

It has been wonderful to see children engaging with confidence, forming new friendships, and showing curiosity about what lies ahead. These early connections and experiences are essential in helping them feel settled and motivated.

We hope that both children are now feeling more confident, prepared, and enthusiastic as we look ahead to September. With a strong start and a positive mindset, we are excited to see everyone return ready to achieve great things in their new year group.

We are also delighted to inform you that Mrs Dempster will be our Deputy Headteacher and Miss Daborn will be an Assistant Headteacher two days a week from September.

Safeguarding

Stay Safe in the Sun and Around Water This Summer

As we head into the summer holidays, we encourage all families to take extra care when enjoying the outdoors. Remember to protect children from the sun by using sunscreen, wearing hats and suitable clothing, seeking shade during the hottest part of the day, and keeping well hydrated. If you're spending time near the water, always supervise children closely, choose lifeguarded beaches where possible, and make sure everyone knows the basics of staying safe in and around water.

For more information and practical safety advice, please visit the NHS Sun Safety guidance and the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) water safety advice pages.

We hope you all have a happy, healthy and safe summer break!

Smartphone Free Childhood

Last week, Jennifer Powers from the Smartphone Free Childhood movement, came to speak with The Vineyard families about the impact that smartphones are having on young people and what families can do to support their children.

Please click here for the presentation slides and visit https://www.smartphonefreechildhood.org/ to find out more.

ISEB Tests and CAT4 for Year 6 Pupils

If you would like your child to complete their ISEB tests at our school, please select us as the invigilation centre on your ISEB profile. The test will be on Saturday 14th November at 8:30am. The fee for completing this at our school is £175. The fee will be available nearer the time.

If you would like your child to complete their CAT4 test with us, please complete this form. This will take place on Saturday 21st November at 8:30am. There is an additional cost due to the school needing to purchase the papers. As a result, it will be £175 plus the additional cost (TBC).

Summer Clear-Out? We'd Love Your Unwanted Treasures!

As you have a summer clear-out, please keep the Year 1 team in mind! We are looking for unwanted items to help enhance our outdoor learning areas. If you have any of the following spare at home, we'd be incredibly grateful for your donations:

  • Old pots and pans for our mud kitchen
  • Bags of soil for the mud kitchen and planters
  • Crates for our outdoor construction area
  • Water play resources, such as small fishing nets, sinking/floating toys, waterproof numbers and letters, measuring and pouring toys
  • Small world toys, including animals and dinosaurs, cars, trees, bushes and other scenery/props, small wooden building bricks
  • A small table and chairs for outdoor writing activities

Please don't buy anything new – we're only looking for spare or no-longer-needed items that could be given a second life in Year 1.

Clearing out your kitchen?

With the high number of staff we have in school, the kitchen items (toaster, coffee machine, microwave, milk-frother, cutlery, mugs) have a considerable amount of use! If you are renewing items in your kitchen and think your old items could be of use, please email the school office.

Or your children's toys?

We are looking for donations for the playground:

  • Duplo and Lego
  • Toy cars

Thank you!

Thank You to Our Amazing Parent Volunteers

As we come to the end of another fantastic year, I would like to say a huge thank you to the many parents who have generously given their time, energy and enthusiasm to support our school community.

A special thank you goes to the parents who have kindly stepped forward to organise a Reception Disco and a Year 5 Party. We are very grateful for your willingness to make these events happen.

Thank you also to the fantastic team of parents who organised our whole-school Bounceathon. It was a brilliant event that was enjoyed by children across the school and raised an amazing £1307 for the school. This money will be used to enhance lunchtimes.

A further thank you goes to the parents who coordinated this year's tea towel project, which raised a fantastic £1,400. Your hard work is greatly appreciated, and the funds raised will support enriching opportunities for our children.

If you are interested in organising or helping with an event next year, we would love to hear from you. Please do get in touch by sending an email to the school—we are always grateful for new ideas and helping hands.

Finally, our postponed Family Forum has now been rearranged for 6th October at 9.15. Further information about the format of the meeting and how to take part will be shared with families in September.
