Read on to find out about what has been happening in years 3 & 4.

Year 3

What a fantastic year we have had in Year 3! It has been filled with wonderful memories, lots of learning, personal growth, and many achievements. The children are now ready and excited for their next adventure in Year 4.

Our final weeks have been jam-packed with exciting experiences. We had an incredible D&T day making bread, enjoyed a fascinating trip to the synagogue, and celebrated a wonderful Festival of Sports, where the children showed excellent teamwork, determination, and encouragement towards one another.

As we wrap up our wider curriculum topics, we have been investigating the impact different amounts of water have on basil plants in science. The children have loved making predictions, observing changes, and recording their findings, and we look forward to sharing the results with you.

In history, we have continued exploring Ancient Egypt and what life was like during this fascinating period. This has inspired our final writing piece of Year 3, a newspaper report about an ancient artefact discovered at The Vineyard School! We have focused on using quotations correctly with speech marks and supporting our ideas with a range of conjunctions to make our writing clear, detailed and engaging. The children's creativity and enthusiasm have been fantastic. In maths, we have been learning about shape and measure, with plenty of hands-on activities and problem-solving challenges that the children have thoroughly enjoyed.

Our learning certainly hasn't stopped yet! This week, we are looking forward to making our own healthy sandwiches, using everything we have learnt about a healthy, balanced diet. We can't wait to enjoy them together on the field as we celebrate another successful year of learning.

As your Year 3 teachers, we have had such a special year creating memories with your wonderful children. It has been a privilege to watch them learn, grow, and develop in confidence. Thank you for all your support throughout the year. We wish you all a happy, restful summer and look forward to hearing about the exciting adventures the children have in Year 4!

Year 4

The last two weeks at school have seen our cohort taking part in the popular Festival of Sport, which included a variety of competitive and teamwork activities. Thank you to those who were able to come and support in the heat! We have also enjoyed watching the fantastic Year 6 production, performing in a variety of concerts, including our whole-year ukulele concert, and taking part in the Bounceathon, which the children thoroughly enjoyed

In Design and Technology, the children have designed, made and evaluated their fantastic light boxes, applying their learning about electricity by creating simple circuits to illuminate their designs. They are incredibly proud of their finished products, and the light boxes will be coming home soon. Be sure to add a set of battery-powered fairy lights so you can see their wonderful creations glowing at home!

A huge well done to all of the children for their fantastic MTC results! We know how hard they have worked throughout the year, and their dedication has truly paid off. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them for all the effort, determination and resilience they have shown.

The children have spent much of this week exploring their new classrooms, meeting their new teachers and getting excited for the adventures that await them in September. As we prepare to tidy out drawers, take down name pegs and clear the final displays from our learning walls, we have been reflecting on what a wonderful year it has been.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our families for being such an important part of this busy, fun-filled year. Your support, encouragement and involvement have made a real difference. Thank you to everyone who has accompanied us on trips, volunteered at events and supported learning both at school and at home.

A special thank you for completing reading records and diligently noting new vocabulary. We really appreciate the time and effort you have put into supporting your child's reading journey. And, if you haven't quite managed to sign the reading record five times each week this year, why not make it a goal for Year 5?

The children have made fantastic progress, both academically and personally, over the past year. Many have grown in confidence and embraced new challenges as they have discovered just how capable they are as learners. They have developed new friendships, shown resilience and enthusiasm, and approached every opportunity with positivity. Each child has played an important part in making Carnelian, Onyx and Zircon such wonderful classes to be part of.

We are incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved and have no doubt they will continue to flourish as they move into the exciting world of Upper Key Stage 2. We wish every one of them happiness, good health and continued success in Year 5.

From all of the Year 4 team, we wish you and your families a happy, healthy and restful summer. We look forward to welcoming the children back in September as confident Year 5 pupils. Please do stop and say hello when you're passing—we'd love to hear how they're getting on!

Please remember that school finishes at 1.30pm on Friday!

With best wishes from us all,

Mrs Darling, Ms Brignell and Mr Murphy

Over the holidays, there will be no set spelling or TTRS homework. However, we encourage children to regularly revisit the Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list, discussing the meanings of the words as well as practising their spellings. Continuing with regular TTRS sessions over the break will also help to maintain and strengthen times table fluency, ensuring children are well prepared for the transition into Year 5.
