What has been happening in year 1 and year 2?
Year 1
As we come to the end of another wonderful year, we would like to celebrate everything the children have achieved. We are incredibly proud of them all. They have grown in confidence, independence and resilience, and have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm. Their Year 2 teachers are very lucky to be welcoming such a wonderful group of children next year!
In English, the children have enjoyed a range of inspiring texts. From writing letters home to their alien families in Beegu to creating character descriptions of Little Red and imaginative narratives based on Yeti and Bird and The Smile Shop, their progress and confidence as writers has been wonderful to see.
We were inspired by the fascinating work of Yayoi Kusama, Anthony Gormley and Andy Goldsworthy during our art learning, and created colourful polka dot artworks, natural sculptures and beautiful pieces inspired by the natural world. In D&T, they learned about healthy food and made delicious fruit kebabs as wellI as some very impressive moving mechanism pop-ups and their own animal homes, showcasing their understanding of stable structures.
There were fantastic trips to Kew Gardens, Richmond Museum and Richmond Park, where the children brought their learning to life through hands-on experiences. Fieldwork Day gave the children the opportunity to explore their local environment through the eyes of geographers, helping them develop their observational skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Their class assemblies were a notable highlight, where they confidently showcased all of their amazing learning and became passionate Clean Sea advocates, sharing their learning about pollution and protecting sea animals.
The children had a fantastic time taking part in our Festival of Sport this week. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and encouragement as they tackled a range of activities, including relays, throwing and jumping events, coordination challenges and even space hopper races! It was wonderful to see everyone trying their best, supporting one another and enjoying being active together.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement throughout the year. We hope you all have a wonderful summer filled with fun, rest and special family moments. It has been a privilege to watch the children grow this year, and we wish them every success as they embark on their Year 2 adventure.
With best wishes,
The Year 1 Team

Year 2
As we come to the end of another fantastic year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on everything the children have achieved. It has been a wonderful year, and we are immensely proud of every single one of them. They have grown in confidence, independence and resilience, and have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm. Their Year 3 teachers are very lucky to be welcoming such a fantastic group of children!
This year has been filled with exciting learning opportunities. In English, the children have explored a wide range of books and produced an impressive variety of writing, including narratives, speeches, news reports, recounts, persuasive letters and much more. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and creativity develop.
In D&T, the children enjoyed designing and making pizzas, sewing finger puppets and creating their own windmills. In art, they produced some fantastic work inspired by Orla Kiely, Keith Haring and Wassily Kandinsky, showcasing their creativity and developing artistic skills.
There have also been many memorable moments beyond the classroom. We loved seeing the children perform so confidently in the Nativity at Christmas and during their class assemblies. More recently, they have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Tudors, and last week's trip to Hampton Court Palace was a wonderful way to bring their learning to life.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year - it has made such a difference. We wish you all a happy, relaxing summer break, and we know our amazing Year 2 children will continue to shine as they begin their exciting Year 3 journey.
