Read on to find out what we have been up to in Years 5 & 6 this week.

Year 5

What an unforgettable week we’ve had! Last week’s three day residential was a roaring success and Year 5 made us all proud. From the moment we arrived, the children embraced every challenge with big smiles, boundless energy and a fantastic sense of teamwork.

One of the most surprising (and welcome) highlights? They actually slept! After full days of adventuring, even the most energetic needed their rest. We’re happy to report that bedtime went smoother than expected.

As for the activities, it’s safe to say the rafting was a firm favourite. There’s nothing quite like paddling together across the water while getting very wet and laughing the whole time. The shield wall battle brought out their inner warriors with chants, charges and a lot of laughter. And of course, free time was a hit, as they explored, played and simply enjoyed being together outside the classroom.

Back in school this week, we’re continuing that adventurous spirit in our History lessons as we dive into the world of Viking raids. The children are already buzzing with questions, ideas and excitement as they begin to learn more about these fierce seafarers and their impact on the British Isles.

Looking ahead, Summer 2 is bursting with exciting events, new experiences and learning opportunities. Please make sure you keep an eye on the calendar so you don’t miss out on any of the fun.

Thank you again for your continued support. Your children were a credit to you and we’re so proud of everything they achieved during our residential.

Here’s to more adventures ahead!

Year 6

What a week we have had! The much awaited Year 6 trip to PGL Liddington was an unforgettable experience, full of adventure, laughter and sunshine. From the moment we boarded the coach, the excitement was non-stop and every day brought a new challenge and opportunity to try something new.

Our week was packed with thrilling activities and the sun stayed with us throughout, making everything even more enjoyable. We tested our nerves and conquered fears with abseiling and the exhilarating zip wire - flying through the air with huge smiles! The giant swing was a firm favourite, while fencing gave us the chance to try something completely new. Canoeing (and then swimming in the lake) was the perfect opportunity to cool down and splash around with friends.

There were plenty more adventures too – orienteering, climbing, archery, trapeze and evening games that kept everyone smiling and engaged from morning to night. It really was a busy week!

It was brilliant to see everyone truly showing The Vineyard values of being caring and courageous throughout the week, supporting one another, trying new things, and growing in confidence each day.

Our accommodation was comfortable and cosy and everyone loved spending time in their rooms with friends, winding down after a busy day. And let’s not forget the food – we were truly spoilt! Every meal was tasty and very filling.

PGL wasn’t just about activities – it was about working as a team, building resilience and independence and making memories that will stay with us forever. We returned home tired but buzzing with stories to share and achievements to celebrate. Memories that will definitely last us a lifetime.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6s – they were brave, kind and full of enthusiasm all week.

The fun doesn’t end there though: we are looking forward to getting back to rehearsals, DT day and focusing on transition to secondary school. This really is a term to remember!

Here are some quotes from very happy children:

‘Go to the top of everything - you don’t want to regret it.’

‘ I really didn’t think I could have done climbing before today.’

‘This is the BEST day ever!’

‘It’s been a great experience to grow independence and climb lots of different things.
