EYFS News

Read on to find out what we have been up to in Reception this week.

The past two weeks in EYFS have been filled with exciting learning experiences and creative activities! We started by learning about Mary Fields, an inspiring historical figure known for her bravery and determination as a postwoman in the 1800s. Through engaging stories and discussions, we explored her life and contributions. This learning was complemented by our post-themed activities in our free learning provision, including matching the correct number representation to the corresponding door number, engaging in fine motor post-themed activities, and writing letters to deliver through the handmade post box.

In writing, we focused on superheroes, using adjectives to describe their amazing abilities. The children wrote simple sentences, such as “He is strong” and “She is brave.” This helped develop their vocabulary and sentence structure while encouraging creativity. The children were also very fortunate to have an author visit them, Annemarie Anang, who read 2 of her wonderful stories and played the ukulele! They also had a go at doing a dance, from her book “Dance, just like so!”

We also learned about oral hygiene and other ways to keep our bodies healthy. The children explored the importance of brushing their teeth, eating nutritious foods, and staying active. To put our healthy eating knowledge into practice, we made delicious vegetable salads. The children enjoyed chopping, mixing, and tasting a variety of fresh vegetables, reinforcing the importance of a balanced diet.

In art, we created stunning superhero skyline collages. Using different materials, the children designed vibrant cityscapes with bold silhouettes of themselves as superheroes in action. This activity allowed them to express their creativity while enhancing their fine motor skills.

Key messages:

  • A reminder that children are not allowed to play on the climbing frame or use the school equipment before and after school, including siblings.

  • Please can you continue to give us donations of clean recycling to add to our junk modeling as we use it throughout the year - small boxes, toilet rolls etc. However we cannot accept anything that once contained nuts, eggs or fish.

  • Please return any spare socks, pants, trousers that have been sent home previously for your child. We have no spare socks, pants, trousers/leggings left. Alternatively any donations are welcome!

  • If you would like to be a ‘mystery reader’, please fill in this link here

  • Lots of children are bringing in toys from home; we do not advise this as they get lost/broken and children get very upset. If children take them out of their bag, they will be confiscated until the end of the day.

  • Advance warning: Bug Ball - 2nd May. Children to come dressed as an insect/minibeast
