EYFS News

Read on to find out what we have been up to in Reception this week.

We have had a wonderful two weeks in Reception, full of exciting learning and fun activities! In phonics, we have been busy learning our new sounds — p, o, g, c, and k. The children have been working really hard to recognise, say, and write these letters, and we are becoming very confident writers. It’s lovely to see how proud everyone feels when they write our new sounds independently.

In PE, we have been moving to music and exploring different ways of travelling. We’ve been jumping, balancing, running, hopping, and even galloping, showing great control and coordination. The children have especially enjoyed creating their own movement sequences and practising working together as a team.

In maths, we have been learning about the composition of the numbers 1, 2, and 3. We’ve been making and counting groups, spotting numbers in our environment, and using lots of practical resources to help us understand how numbers are made up.

Our topic work has been all about where we live. We’ve explored our local area, learning that The Vineyard School is in Richmond, which is part of England. It’s been a brilliant fortnight of discovery, teamwork, and growing independence!

Messages:

  • Please can you give us donations of clean recycling to add to our junk modelling as we use it throughout the year - small boxes, toilet rolls etc. However we cannot accept anything that once contained nuts, eggs or fish

  • A reminder that children are not to play on the climbing frame or use the school equipment before and after school, including siblings

  • Every Friday, your child will come home with the four new sounds we have learnt that week. Please spend time at home with your child asking them to tell you the sounds they have learnt and also encourage your child to complete the correct letter formation for each letter. At the top of the worksheet is the rhyme to help the children to remember how to form them correctly. These are for you to keep at home and do not need to be returned to school.

  • This week we will also be putting a ‘Star Moments’ sheet in your child’s bag. Every Friday, we will celebrate any star moments your child has had at home e.g. learnt to ride a bike, helped their siblings at home, started a new club, used wonderful manners to a relative etc. The spare ‘Star Moments’ sheets can be found hanging on the door if you run out.

  • Please can we politely ask that Reception children do not come around to the Reception gate in a buggy. Please can they be encouraged to walk to their classroom.
