Gems News

Read on to find out what we have been up to in Gems this week.
I am very proud of the Gems children as they have been working hard in their different year groups.
Our Reception boys have started their phonics this week learning m, a, s and d. Learning to say the sound, recognise and write the letters.
In Year 1 English, we started our new book Beegu, we have been using our adjectives to describe how she is feeling. Building on our sentence writing skills to include both adjectives and conjunctions ‘because’ to stretch our sentences and make them more interesting.
In Year 2 English, this week, we are beginning our brand-new text, Traction Man. The children have really enjoyed making predictions about what the story might be about and are excited to find out what happens next.
In maths both Year 1 and 2 children are working on their number bonds to 5 and 10 using different practical equipment for support and learning to write their numbers correctly to 10.
Last week in science, Gems participated in a practical activity to support their learning the names of the 5 senses and what body parts help us explore our senses.
This week Gems are learning about the 4 seasons, focussing on Autumn. They sorted pictures related to the correct season and then went on an Autumn sensory walk.
Last Friday, we had a great time at our Teddy Bears’ Picnic. The children made pinwheels during their cooking session in the morning, which they ate at Terrace Gardens.
Well done Gems – keep up the fantastic learning!
