Music Curriculum Update

It’s been another exciting week in Music, with creativity and collaboration shining across the school!

  • Year 6 turned their word clouds into musical ideas this week. They chose three words to inspire their colour world and selected instruments that matched their ideas. Working collaboratively, they created brilliant musical starting points — it was wonderful to see so many children so inspired and focused.
  • Year 5 have been writing fantastic new lyrics for their own arrangement of Drunken Sailor. Some lyrical highlights include:
    • “Venmous spiders in his bed.” – Tiger
    • “Wrap him and put him n the plank, yeah!” – Ted
    • “Lck him up until he’s starving.” – Ruby
  • Year 4 have become musical detectives, identifying key musical features in the score of This Little Light of Mine.
  • Year 3 are creating a wonderful arrangement of I’ve Been to Harlem, full of tuned and untuned percussion accompaniments.
  • Year 2 are learning all about pitch and have been using their own pitch pencils to explore high and low sounds.

In our musical assemblies, KS2 are enjoying learning the empowering pop track Power in Me, while KS1 are singing Come Dance With Me with brilliant voices and super actions.

Here a few highlights from some of our fantastic year 6 musicians!

Maxi (Jet) – I was so impressed with how you led your composition group today in such a professional and mature way. You communicated clearly with others, keeping everyone involved and on track. I also loved the piano part you created—it had a wonderfully spooky character! Keep up the great work.

Oli M (Kyanite) – I really enjoyed the creative ideas you brought to your composition group today. The piano line you composed has a catchy, engaging melody, and I can tell you’ve put real thought into how it fits with the rest of the piece. I’m looking forward to hearing how your group develops it further. Great work!

Mitchell (Garnet) – You worked with real independence and focus throughout today’s composition task. You consistently modelled our musical expectations and showed what teamwork and concentration look like in practice. A fantastic example to the rest of the group—well done!
