Reception News

Read on to find out what has been happening in reception.
What a wonderful and busy couple of weeks we have had in Reception! The children have loved learning about the artist Wassily Kandinsky, focusing especially on his use of circles. They created their own beautiful pieces inspired by his work, showing great creativity and colour choices.
We have also been very excited practising our Christmas songs in preparation for our upcoming Christmas play. The children are already singing with confidence and enthusiasm!
In maths, we have been exploring different ways of making 5, using practical resources to help us understand the new vocabulary whole and part. The children are beginning to use this language confidently when explaining their ideas.
In phonics, we have been consolidating all of our single sounds as we get ready to learn our “special friends” next week (digraphs —two letters that make one sound, such as ‘ch-i-n = chin’. We have also been practising reading our red words (words we cannot Fred Talk) including my, put, the, and I.
Last week, we were busy writing sentences about what makes us kind and have created a lovely kindness chain in our classroom. Each child gave another child a compliment and we all agreed that this made us smile and made us feel ‘green’ (using our zones of regulation to explain our feelings).
During free learning, the children have enjoyed using the creation station and box modelling to design imaginative models and explain their purposes. Outside, they have explored more and less using the large scales and investigated capacity in the water area.
Well done, Reception—another fantastic couple of weeks of learning!

Please can you give us donations of clean recycling to add to our junk modelling as we use it throughout the year - small boxes, toilet rolls etc. However we cannot accept anything that once contained nuts, eggs or fish.
-
A reminder that children are not to play on the climbing frame or use the school equipment before and after school, including siblings.

Thank you for returning your child’s reading folder on Wednesdays. Wednesday evenings is when the teachers will change these books so it is important that these are returned promptly on a Wednesday. Please ensure you are reading with your children at least 5 times a week and recording their progress in their reading records.

This week, inside your child’s reading folder there will be a costume letter and ‘lines’ (if your child has a speaking part in the Christmas play). Please practise these lines at home to give your child confidence for our upcoming play.
