Reception News

Read on to find out what has been happening in reception.
Over the past two weeks in Reception, the children have been incredibly busy and full of excitement as we prepare for our Nativity performance next week. The classroom has been filled with singing, practising lines and lots of festive energy! This week, the children took part in their dress rehearsal for the KS1 children, who were a brilliant audience. We were so impressed with the children’s confidence, clear voices and beautiful actions. They are very much looking forward to performing for you all next week!.
We also enjoyed a wonderful Open Classroom session, where families were invited in to look through the children’s work. The children were so proud to share their fantastic writing and drawings, and it was lovely to see the children confidently talking about their learning. Thank you to all the grown-ups who were able to visit and celebrate their achievements.
In phonics, we have been learning the “special friends” sh, th, ch and qu. The children have been practising spotting these sounds in words, reading them aloud and having a go at writing them words. Their enthusiasm and progress have been fantastic to see.
In our topic learning, we have been exploring The Christmas Story, learning about the journey of Mary and Joseph, the birth of baby Jesus and the visitors who came to see him. The children enjoyed using their experience of the nativity play to help them with their re-telling. We have also been learning about Winter, talking about how the weather changes, what animals do at this time of year, how we keep warm and the signs of the season we can spot outdoors.
It has been a joyful start to the festive season in Reception!

Please can you continue to give us donations of clean recycling to add to our junk modelling as we use it throughout the year - small boxes, toilet rolls etc. However we cannot accept anything that once contained nuts, eggs or fish.

A reminder that children are not to play on the climbing frame or use the school equipment before and after school, including siblings.

If your child has borrowed any clothes, please make sure these are washed and returned. We are running very low!

Every Friday, we will celebrate any star moments your child has had at home e.g. learnt to ride a bike, helped their siblings at home, started a new club, used wonderful manners to a relative etc. The spare ‘Star Moments’ sheets can be found hanging on the door if you run out.

Please continue to bring in reading folders every Wednesday and these will be returned with new books on Thursdays. Please listen to your child read at least 5 times a week and record their progress in the reading record.
