Reception News

Read on to find out what has been happening in reception.
What a wonderful and busy term it has been in Reception! We are so proud of how well the children performed in their nativities. Thank you for your support in helping them learn their parts and providing fabulous costumes.
In Phonics, we have been learning the “special friends” ch, qu, ng and nk and the children have been having a go at reading and writing words containing these sounds. We have also introduced the children to ‘alien words.’ These are words that can be read using ‘Fred talk’ but that don’t make any sense!
In Maths children have been learning all about 2D shapes and patterns. We practiced naming shapes, talked about their properties, sorted them and looked at shapes in our environment. The children also thought about patterns, including repeating patterns, helping them to recognise sequences and predict what comes next.
As part of our English work, the children wrote some fantastic letters to Father Christmas, which they will be posting in the post box outside school. They have also been busy writing about their special roles in the nativity.
Within our topic learning we have been thinking about the different ways people celebrate festivals. We learnt about Christmas traditions and compared them with how families celebrate Diwali. We were also very excited to join year 1 and 2 for a special assembly about Hanukkah. We sat and listened beautifully and particularly enjoyed the lights and dancing at the end.
We wish you all a restful break, and look forward to seeing the children back in the New Year for another exciting term.

Please can you continue to give us donations of clean recycling to add to our junk modelling as we use it throughout the year - small boxes, toilet rolls etc. However we cannot accept anything that once contained nuts, eggs or fish.
-
A reminder that children are not to play on the climbing frame or use the school equipment before and after school, including siblings.
-
If your child has borrowed any clothes, please make sure these are washed and returned. We are running very low!

Every Friday, we celebrate any star moments your child has had at home e.g. learnt to ride a bike, helped their siblings at home, started a new club, used wonderful manners to a relative etc. The spare ‘Star Moments’ sheets can be found hanging on the door if you run out.

Please continue to bring in reading folders every Wednesday and these will be returned with new books on Thursdays. Please listen to your child read at least 5 times a week and record their progress in the reading record.
- PE will be returning to Thursday next term. Children should come to school wearing their full PE kit.
