Read on to find out what we have been up to in Years 3 & 4 this week.
Year 3
It has been lovely welcoming back all the children for their last half term as Year 3! We are excited for the new subjects, trips and other end of year activities planned.
We’ve had a busy first week back, with class photos, the first round of Vineyard’s Got Talent auditions, and a fantastic Careers Day.
Careers day has been a highlight, inspiring lots of great questions and ideas. We were lucky to welcome some fantastic visitors including an actor, a journalist and an automobile specialist. Each speaker gave us a unique glimpse into their profession, sparking lively discussions and helping children start thinking about their own future ambitions. The children also loved sharing their dreams and hopes for the future!
In English, the children have completed their advertisements for their very own Cloud Tea, using engaging adjectives and prepositional phrases to create persuasive and imaginative writing. They did a fantastic job – we were very impressed with their creativity and descriptive language!
We’ve also begun exploring a new book set in Egypt, called the Egyptian Cinderella. This ties in beautifully with our new topic in History, all about Egypt. We’ve been comparing different versions of Cinderella stories from around the world, discussing similarities, cultural differences and the unique twists each version brings.
In Geography, our focus has been on mountains. The children have loved using atlases, drawing labelled diagrams and watching real-life videos of climbers reaching the summit. This has helped bring their learning to life and encouraged thoughtful discussions about perseverance, the natural world, and the different landscapes around the globe.
Next week we will be starting new topics in DT, RE and History. We’re excited to continue building on previous learning in the weeks ahead.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Year 4
It has been a busy, fun week, as we returned to an action-packed schedule. We had barely heard about the children’s half term, before it was time to dash outside - between showers - and strike a pose for our class photo. Look out for the proofs!
We held round one of our popular talent competition: Vineyard’s Got Talent. Fingers crossed for our class winners to battle it out in the second round next week and find an entry that represents Year 4 in the final, which will be performed in front of the whole school.
We completed our maths money topic and have moved on to measurement, starting with refreshing knowledge about the number of days in each month. Ask your child about the knuckle hack they learnt!
Reading has continued with the ever-popular The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, but English has a new text: Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. We enjoyed identifying the features of biographies, then have been busy researching the life of Howard Carter to find facts to include in our next piece of writing: his biography.
Science was a hands-on practical session, with children having fun and producing a model of the digestive system, mixing food and water and imitating its passage through the digestive tract (fashioned out of a pair of tights!).
Our final geography learning of the year concluded with classes using their previous half term’s knowledge to compare Hawaii and California and their volcanic and earthquake activity, due to their specific location.
Yesterday, the year group travelled by tube to the Lyric, Hammersmith to be treated to an impactful interactive performance by Children’s Laureate for Wales, Alex Wharton. They joined a 500-strong ‘drawathon’ and demonstrated talent for memorising poetry. Thank you to the parent helpers who accompanied us.
Friday saw classes welcome a selection of parent speakers who talked about their careers: their route in, training and current projects. This was the first time the school had undertaken a careers day. Hopefully, this was the start of what will become an annual event. Many thanks to Mrs Darling for her vision and organisational graft.
