School Trip to the Houses of Parliament

The school council were lucky enough to be invited on a special trip to the Houses of Parliament last week.
After making our way through the airport-like security, we met Lord Elliot in the oldest part of the building: Westminster Hall. He told us what it is like to be a member of the House of Lords and what he does day-to-day. The children were fascinated to find out how he got into politics, what he liked most about his job and whether or not he’d met a Prime Minister (it turns out, he’s met them all!). Next, equipped with headsets, we were given a grand tour. We were told many historical stories and ‘fun facts’ on our way around by the experts and they were so impressed by the Vineyard children’s enthusiasm and interest in the history of the building and all the fun facts they had to share too! After a lot of walking, we found a grassy spot with the House of Parliament as our back-drop to have a well-earned sit down, lunch and do some sketching. On arrival back at school, the children eagerly reported back all that they had learnt to their classmates. Thank you to the parent volunteers and everyone who made the trip possible.
