Snack Attack:Wrappers Out! Initiative
Our School Takes a Stand Against Plastic Waste!
Led by the Green Team but involving us all, this is an exciting new environmental campaign launching across our school on Monday 19th January 2026. This initiative and challenge marks a significant step in our commitment to sustainability and environmental support, directly addressing the growing issue of plastic pollution.
OUR GOAL
Our goal is simple yet impactful: we want to eliminate single-use plastic wrappers entirely from our school and we are starting with snack times in the playground and classrooms.
At the moment our playground bins look like this……..

😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Our goal is for the bins to be full of compostable items such as apple cores, banana skins, orange peel

Why?
Every day, countless plastic snack wrappers are discarded, contributing significantly to landfill waste. These wrappers are often non-recyclable and take hundreds of years to break down, harming wildlife and ecosystems in the process.
As a school community, we have a unique opportunity to lead by example. By choosing reusable alternatives, we learn valuable lessons about responsibility, resource management and the direct impact of their daily choices on the planet.
How You Can Participate?
Participating in the ‘Snack Attack:Wrappers Out’ Initiative is easy and healthy! We are encouraging all students, parents, and staff to adopt a ‘no plastic’ approach when packing and organising snacks.
Here are some ideas for sustainable, plastic-free snacks:
-
Fruit and Veggies: Apples, bananas, berries, grapes, carrot sticks, pepper and cucumber slices are naturally "wrapped" in their own skin.
-
Bulk Items: oats, chicken, cheese, yogurt, oatcakes, fruit, rice cakes or dried fruit can be bought in larger amounts, cut up and portioned into reusable containers.
The Tools for Success
To make this a success and seamless, we encourage the use of:
-
NAMED Reusable Containers: Bento boxes, small plastic or metal tubs with lids - nothing expensive - readily available from supermarkets (please name your containers and put them back in your bag or classroom)
-
Beeswax Wraps: A fantastic, eco-friendly alternative to cling film.
-
Cloth Napkins and small snack Bags: Simple reusable options that reduce paper and plastic waste.
Get Involved!
We are excited to see our school community embrace this positive change. Every container packed and every wrapper avoided, makes a difference.
Our Green Team are going to be leading the way and will be able to help with any questions and can’t wait to see what snacks are brought in and the impact that this has on our environment! They will be on hand to advise everyone and check the bins!!
Let’s work together to make our school a cleaner, greener place.
What will your snack look like?
