Gems News

Read on to find out what has been happening in Gems this week.

For more information on your child’s learning this week, please check the ‘Latest News’ section for their year group - Reception or KS1.

The children in Gems have really enjoyed our science topic on materials. They began by learning to sort different materials into five groups: wood, plastic, metal, glass and fabric. Last week, the children had great fun investigating which material would be best to make an umbrella or coat for Teddy, testing their ideas through hands-on exploration.

This week, we introduced the new vocabulary sink and float. The children took turns to make predictions before testing a range of items, discovering which would sink and which would float. They showed great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the investigations.

Messages:

Thank you to the families that regularly read and return your child’s reading folder on Mondays.

Can I please ask all the parents to please read with your child at home at least 5 times a week and return the signed reading record folders weekly.  This is a very important part of your child’s reading journey.

In addition you can enjoy reading other stories to them, stop half way through and you can both predict the ending, talk about the story making links to other books, can they retell the story? Can they answer a few questions about the story?
