Read on to find out what has been happening in years 5 & 6

Year 5

It is hard to believe we are heading into the final week of the Spring Term already, especially with the lovely sunshine making it feel like a fresh start. The children have been in great spirits and have kept up their focus while enjoying the brighter days.

We have been busy finishing our London tourist brochures and they are looking fantastic. The children have worked hard to make them informative and eye-catching, thinking carefully about layout, language and how to appeal to a reader. It has been lovely to see their creativity shine through in this project.

In maths, we have been exploring statistics through line graphs and tables. The children have been learning how to read and interpret data as well as present their own findings clearly. There have been some great discussions as they worked out what the information is really telling them.

Design and Technology has had a very hands on feel, with the children practising a range of different stitches. They have shown real patience and determination as they developed their sewing skills, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow with each attempt.

A real highlight this fortnight was a visit from a former student, Iris, who came in to talk about Greek myths. The children were completely hooked and the classroom was buzzing with excitement and questions afterwards. It was a fantastic opportunity and clearly sparked a lot of interest.

It was also lovely to see so many of you at the recent parent meetings. We always value these conversations and are grateful for your continued support.

Year 6

What a jam-packed and exciting two weeks it has been in Year 6! Our reading of Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo* took an exciting turn as we paused the story to reveal the children’s next writing task: creating their own ending. Who might arrive on a boat? What might happen to the main characters? Will the conclusion be happy or sad? The children have loved stepping into the role of authors, embracing the freedom to craft their own unique plot twists and imaginative resolutions.

In maths, there was a mixture of excitement and disbelief as the children realised they are only a handful of lessons away from completing the KS2 curriculum. Our final topics of position and direction, along with statistics, have set us up brilliantly for the revision period and the exciting projects to come in the summer term.

DT has certainly been a highlight, with taste buds tingling as the children sampled a range of burger toppings and sauces, carefully identifying flavour profiles to inform their designs. The anticipation is building as they prepare to bring their creations to life next week!

In science, the children have been exploring electricity, representing different circuits using symbols and diagrams. This has provided a fun and efficient way to record and present their scientific enquiries, while developing a deeper understanding of how circuits work.

It has been a fantastic couple of weeks, full of creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm, and we are looking forward to what comes next.
