Reception News

Read on to find out what has been happening in reception.
Over the past two weeks, we have been fully immersed in our exciting Minibeasts topic! The children have enjoyed learning all about different habitats and their key features. We spent time exploring the learning garden, searching for and observing a variety of minibeasts in their natural environments. The children have really enjoyed their Vineyard Adventurers sessions too, where they have been able to observe first hand the different minibeasts found in the forest area and around the pond.
In the Creation Station, the children have been very busy using their creativity to make wonderful minibeast crafts. They created colourful caterpillars using paper chains and designed dragonflies using pipe cleaners and pegs.
In history, we learned about King Charles III and explored his role as King. The children created fantastic portraits, carefully thinking about the key features of his face. In English, we wrote thoughtful letters to the King, discussing the questions we would like to ask him.
In Phonics, we have been learning our “chatty friends” sounds:
-
a-e as in name
-
i-e as in time
-
o-e as in bone
The children have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of all they have achieved! We hope you enjoyed seeing the progress the children have made when you visited the classrooms this morning.
Talk homework
At home, with your child, we would like to encourage you to have a conversation about the learning we are doing in school. In every newsletter, we will share with you an idea to spark a conversation with your child.

This week, ask your child -
-
What is your favourite minibeast?
-
Where would I find a spider?
-
Describe the lifecycle of a caterpillar?
-
Why are bees important?
