Reception News

Read on to find out what has been happening in reception.
This half term, Reception have had a wonderful time finishing our minibeast topic by watching our butterflies hatch from their chrysalis before carefully releasing them into the wild. The children were fascinated to observe the changes and talk about the butterfly life cycle. It was such a special experience and a lovely way to end our learning about plants and bugs.
In English, the children have become fantastic young authors! We have been writing our very own fiction stories all about a bee. The children used their imagination to think about what might happen next in their story, drew detailed pictures, and used their phonics knowledge to write sentences independently. We are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm and confidence with writing.
In Maths, we have been exploring weight and capacity through practical activities. The children have been learning to compare objects using the language heavy, light, and balanced. We have also investigated capacity by using the words full and empty while measuring and pouring in our water activities. The children have enjoyed lots of hands-on learning and have worked brilliantly together throughout the half term.
Talk homework

At home, with your child, we would like to encourage you to have a conversation about the learning we are doing in school. In every newsletter, we will share with you an idea to spark a conversation with your child.
This week, ask your child -
-
Can you tell me about the life cycle of a butterfly?
-
What is the next stage in the life cycle after the butterfly?
-
What was your bee story about? Who was in your story and what happened next?
-
Can you find something at home that is heavy and something that is light? How do you know?
-
Can you show me something that is full and something that is empty? What happens when we add or pour away water?
