We all had a wonderful trip to Holly Lodge for our Butterfly, Bugs and Beetles teaching session. The children listened well and walked there and back very sensibly. We were lucky to have fantastic weather and we were able to enjoy a slow walk to Holly Lodge, stopping to look at the natural wildlife on the way: rabbits, birds, bugs and 2 herds of deer.  At the centre, we had a lovely surprise to find some of the horses being groomed. The children enjoyed the indoor activities, where they impressed the staff with their fantastic knowledge of minibeasts. Then we explored the nature trail, following the life cycle of a butterfly. We had an opportunity to use magnifying glasses and observation jars to investigate bugs under logs and the plants around them. The big wow factor was the pond dipping! Each child had the opportunity to circle the net and observe what they found. What a fun trip!

The staff will like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful half term - we hope the weather improves!

In Gems’ English lessons, we are reading The Emperor’s Egg (for 3 weeks).

Here is a video link for you to share the book at home with your child
