Year 3
What a fabulous week we have had in Year 3! The sun has been shining brightly, and although the weather has been warm, the children have continued to work incredibly hard while keeping their wonderful smiles on their faces.
Last week, we thoroughly enjoyed our exciting trip to the BFI on the Southbank. During our visit, we watched a series of inspiring short films celebrating our differences and encouraging us to appreciate what makes each of us unique. The children engaged in thoughtful discussions about the qualities they are proud of and how our differences make our community such a special place. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on kindness, respect and individuality.
In English, we have continued our work based on The Egyptian Cinderella. The children have shown fantastic creativity by writing their own alternative endings to the story. They have enjoyed changing the animals, magical objects and key events to create imaginative and engaging conclusions. We cannot wait to publish their finished pieces and share their brilliant ideas with you.
In maths, we have completed our topic on time and have begun exploring shape. This week, we have been learning about clockwise and anti-clockwise turns and have been introduced to angles. The children have embraced these new concepts with enthusiasm, and we are looking forward to developing our understanding even further next week.
Science has also been great fun! We have launched our new enquiry by giving each class a basil plant to care for. We are carrying out an investigation to discover how different amounts of water affect the growth of the plants. The children are already making careful observations and predictions! Our history learning about the Ancient Egyptians continues to capture the children's imaginations. They have loved discovering more about this fascinating civilisation and are always eager to learn something new.
Finally, we would like to say how incredibly proud we are of all the children for their hard work during their class assemblies. It was such a special opportunity to share a snapshot of our learning with you, and it was wonderful to see the children's confidence shine as they performed.

Year 4
What a week we've had with the weather! The children have coped brilliantly with the heat and have shown great responsibility in looking after themselves. They have been very sensible about wearing their hats and sunglasses, keeping hydrated, and bringing their water bottles to school each day. We are very proud of how well they have adapted to the warmer temperatures.
Last week, the children enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Literature Festival at Richmond Theatre. They had the exciting opportunity to have a talk from the well-known and much-loved author Serena Patel, who spoke about her books, her writing process, and what life is like as an author. The children asked some thoughtful questions and were particularly interested in hearing about her pets! After the talk, we enjoyed a picnic together on the green, followed by some time to play and relax.
In English, the children have continued developing their explanation texts about volcanoes, using a range of technical vocabulary and applying their growing knowledge of the topic effectively in their writing. It has been wonderful to see how confidently they have incorporated factual information and subject-specific language into their work. Next week, the children will publish their finished explanation texts before moving on to an exciting new writing unit based on Ancient Egypt. They will be creating setting descriptions, focusing on using rich vocabulary and descriptive techniques to bring this fascinating historical world to life.
In maths, we have been developing our understanding of shapes, with a particular focus on triangles and symmetry. The children have been revisiting different types of triangles and learning how to identify and classify them based on their sides and angles, including equilateral, isosceles, and scalene triangles. They have shown a strong understanding of how we can use mathematical reasoning to recognise and describe different shapes. Next week, we will be learning about statistics, including how to interpret and present data using graphs and pictograms.
This week has been a little different from our usual timetable, and we are looking forward to returning to our normal curriculum next week. The children have worked incredibly hard during their morning assessments and have approached them with a positive attitude and determination. We are very proud of the effort and resilience they have shown throughout the week.
A lovely picture of our Battle of the Books children with their amazing creative work from the day!

Keeping cool in the shade for some quiet reading time!

A play after the Literature Festival!
