Writing
Writing at The Vineyard enables our children to develop a life-long love of writing and to be equipped with the skills necessary for their future.
Through our carefully constructed curriculum, a Vineyard writer learns to:
-
write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences
-
plan, draft, revise and edit their writing to create their final piece
-
write with flair and creativity
-
communicate effectively through their writing
-
develop their own writer’s voice as they progress through the school
-
use a wide range of appropriate and ambitious vocabulary
-
produce work which they can be proud of
-
accurately form letters using The Vineyard handwriting script
-
use their knowledge of the different spelling patterns and common exception words to spell accurately

We teach writing through a consistent writing journey. This enables children to build their confidence and skills in every aspect of the writing process from planning, to drafting, to editing, to improving and to publishing. Our curriculum is built upon high-quality and diverse texts which engage and challenge the children.
