Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful half term.
As I walk around Rose Class, I keep discovering whales washed up on the beach! The children have quickly immersed themselves in our new book: The Storm Whale. This week, they have been getting to know the characters and exploring how to retell the story in their own words. In history, we have been learning about the past and present. The boys were particularly interested in an image of a queen displayed on our classroom wall. They were very curious to find out more about her and, in particular, whether she was still alive! In maths, we have been focusing on number bonds to 5 and 10, developing our understanding of how two numbers can be combined to make these totals. It has been lovely to see the children so enthusiastic and engaged in their learning.

Indigo class has had a great first week back. We have been enjoying getting back into our routines and spending time talking about our half term break, we got up to some great and exciting things! We have started our new history topic and have enjoyed talking about things from the past. We are looking forward to learning about monarchs and what they mean to us. We have had a great time learning about and identifying halves in maths, so much fun in fact that we ended up eating our maths lesson! (We cut some apples in half and some not to identify the difference, the children enjoyed helping me tidy up)!

In our Rose class English lessons, we are reading The Storm Whale (for 3 weeks).

Messages:
Please write in your child's reading record every time you hear your child read at home. We recommend reading a minimum of five days a week with your child. Please record a simple message in your child’s reading record once you have read with them. Reading folders need to be brought in on Monday and will be sent back home on Tuesday.
When reading with your child, you can:
-
enjoy reading other stories to them
-
stop half way through and predict the ending
-
talk about the story
-
make links to other books
-
retell the story
-
answer a few questions about the story
A gentle reminder - Please can we remind you that you will receive year group emails with information about your child's mainstream class e.g. trip information. Please can we ask that you keep an eye out for these as vital information is passed on and on occasions responses may be required. It is a great way to keep up to date with all activities going on across the Vineyard.
