LKS2 News

Come and find out what LKS2 have been up to this week!

Year 3

It has been a fantastic week for families, children and teachers of year 3 to meet and discuss and celebrate all the amazing progress being made this term so far.

This week in DT, the children have been channeling their inner engineers when they were tasked to make a structure that would hold the weight of a book, using only newspaper and tape! We saw some very impressive designs and some creative ideas!

In English, we have been sharpening our research skills, as children carried out research to create fact files for extinct animals. With the help of their chromebooks, they were able to find plenty of weird and wonderful facts about saber tooth cats, dodos and even woolly mammoths. Did you know? Saber tooth cats had teeth up to 20 cm long!

In our maths lessons this week, we have been revisiting arrays and using the inverse to create number facts and as another method to help check our answers.

In history, we delved deeper into the Iron Age and designed our own Hillforts, complete with traders, farms and rivers! We are gearing up for an exciting trip to Butser Ancient Farm where the children will get to travel back 10,000 years and experience what life was like in prehistoric Britain.

Year 4

In maths this week, we been revisiting previous learning to strengthen our basic understanding of multiplication and division.

In history, we have been looking at the reasons why The Romans invaded Britain. This week we have been exploring Julius Caesar's invasion attempts, considering what was learnt from these failures and how the emperors who followed learnt from his mistakes.

Our new English text is ‘The Matchbox Diary’, the children will use this to inspire a letter from the main character back to his family in Italy. There have been lot’s of opportunities for role play this week. We have discussed structure of a letter and how we can use emotive language to convey feelings.

In science, we looked at a range of different plants and how they have adapted to their environments. We then recreated some of these plants using a range of different materials.
