Read on to find out more about the exciting project year 6 have been involved and more...

This year, our Year 6 musicians have been working as composers for the English National Opera (ENO) project Finish This….

Bringing together a fusion of opera, film, and animation, Finish This… is a music programme that acts as a creative springboard for collaborative composition work in the classroom. Using an especially commissioned operatic work and a toolkit of resources, Year 6 were invited to create and produce their own music by responding to—and resolving—a purposefully unfinished piece of opera.

Their music has been published on ENO’s website, and they all received glowing feedback from professional musicians who work at ENO. We are especially excited that one composition has a visual accompaniment, created by a team connected to the project. You can enjoy Honeynut from Jet Class using the link below:

We are all immensely proud of our children’s effort and dedication in creating a brand-new piece of music. A huge well done to all Vineyard composers!

Year 3
Our Year 3 have enjoyed creating their own rhythmic compositions this week. Using sticks they mapped out a rhythmic pattern using Ta, Te-te, Tika-Tika and Rest to create their own unique rhythm. They all enjoyed performing their ideas back to the rest of their class.

Who has been doing well in music?

Year 6
Effy (Jet) – Well done for your contribution to the composition that the English National Opera chose to create a visual for. You used some really lovely ideas to help create an interesting piece. Well done on your achievements!

Cece (Kyanite) – Good job today on listening respectfully to each other’s compositions and contributing thoughtfully to your evaluation discussion. Keep up the good work!

Christiano (Garnet) – Fantastic work today during our composition lesson. You listened carefully to others’ ideas, contributed positively to your group, and shared thoughtful comments during the evaluation. Keep up the great work!

Year 5
Lily (Moonstone) – Great job today on picking up all three strokes on the djembe. You were able to play these accurately in the correct positions, which created the distinctive sound of each part of the drum. Keep up the fantastic musical playing!

Melissa (Starlite) – Today you learnt all of your strokes on the djembe with real focus and accuracy. You set a fantastic example to the rest of the group on what it means to be a committed and focused musician. Keep up the great work!

Jad (Peridot) – Well done for modelling your ‘slap’ technique on the djembe to the rest of the class. You showed the correct hand position, which created an accurate sound. By showing this to the rest of the group, you helped many other musicians in the room learn their parts. Well done for being a fantastic teacher and a great musician!

Year 4
Luca (Zircon) – Well done on positioning and playing both the C major and F major chords on the ukulele. You were able to do this independently and sing and play six songs. Keep up the great work!

Robert (Onyx) – Great job during our ukulele lesson today. You worked hard to position your fingers carefully and played the chords with growing confidence. You listened well to instructions and showed great determination throughout the session. Keep up the fantastic work!

Year 3
Zayn (Emerald) – Great job today on following all of our expectations during our prize session. You remained respectful during the song choices for karaoke, and you took part in the singing with positivity. Well done for setting such a good example for the rest of the group

Year 2
Christo (Turquoise) – A big well done today for working with real focus and dedication to tap and clap the pulse and rhythm with accuracy. You also showed great respect when watching back the videos of last term’s class performances, which was very supportive of your classmates. Keep up the great work!

George (Amethyst) – Well done for tapping and clapping the rhythm and pulse accurately today. You also took part in the class karaoke prize with real enthusiasm. Keep up the great work!
