Read on to find out what has been happening in years 5 & 6

Year 5

As we move into the penultimate newsletter of the year, it is hard to believe how quickly the summer term is flying by. The last two weeks have been incredibly busy and the recent hot weather has certainly reminded us that summer has arrived. Despite the soaring temperatures, the children have continued to work hard and approach each day with enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, our Festival of Sport had to be postponed due to the extreme heat. We know the children were disappointed as they had been eagerly anticipating the event. Please continue to check communications for updates regarding the rearranged date as we hope to celebrate their sporting talents very soon.

We are also looking forward to our upcoming class trips to Fulham Palace. These visits promise to be a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore history beyond the classroom and bring their learning to life. Please remember that children will need a packed lunch on the day of their trip.

Excitement is also building for the Year 5 disco, which will take place on 6th July. The children are already talking about it and counting down the days. A huge thank you goes to all the adults who have dedicated their time and effort to organising the event and making it possible. Their support is greatly appreciated.

In class, the children have completed their final assessments of the year. They should be extremely proud of the determination, resilience and positive attitude they have shown throughout the assessment period. We have also been exploring capacity in maths, developing our understanding of volume and measurement through practical activities. In English, the children have been creating engaging Viking narratives, using descriptive language and exciting plot developments to bring their stories to life.

We hope everyone enjoys the weekend and finds a chance to stay cool in the sunshine.

Year 6

The last two weeks have been incredibly busy and exciting in Year 6!

A large part of our time has been dedicated to rehearsals for our end-of-year production of the Lion King. The children have shown fantastic commitment, learning lines, practising songs and perfecting their performances. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork and we cannot wait to share the finished production with you soon.

In science, we have started our new topic by revisiting our previous learning about sound. The children recapped how sounds are made through vibrations and explored how these vibrations travel to our ears, allowing us to hear. They demonstrated excellent recall and scientific understanding from their learning from their Year 4 learning.

We were also delighted to welcome Year 1 and Year 2 into our classrooms to share some of their recent writing as they had written with Year 6 children in mind as their audience. Our Year 6 pupils listened attentively and offered lots of encouragement, celebrating the younger children's achievements. It was wonderful to see such positive relationships across the school and to witness the confidence of our younger writers.

The highlight of the fortnight was definitely our enterprise event. The children worked incredibly hard to plan, organise and run their own stalls and activities for the younger children. From designing new games to creating exciting challenges, they demonstrated creativity, teamwork, resilience and excellent communication skills. The event was a huge success and the sunshine made it feel like a ‘mini fair’. We are extremely proud of every member of Year 6 and their profits will all go towards their end of year cinema trip.
