KS1 News

Come and find out what KS1 have been up to this week!

Year 1

In Year 1 this week we have been very excited about our school trips! We had a wonderful time at Holly Lodge consolidating our plant knowledge we have learnt in science. We also learnt some new facts about pollen. We loved planting our own basil plant and labelling the different parts of a tree. A very special thank you to all our lovely volunteers who came on the trip with us, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! In DT, we have been making our final mechanisms which we carefully designed. We listened to Tom’s story and carefully chose which mechanism we thought would be the best.  In maths, we have been using water and jugs to explore capacity and volume, we compared which containers had the greatest volume. In English, we have been busy making our own actions to recite a poem! We have loved practising and performing to each other.

Key Messages

  • Key vocab: capacity, volume, measure, perform, poem,

  • KIRFs: finding one more and one less of numbers to 50

  • There were no spellings this week, instead please practice the sounds we have learnt this term in phonics and continue to read

Year 2

This term has been so busy, but it seems incredible that we are already in the last week. We are finishing our exploration of the English text The Comet with our own ideas of an alternative ending, seeing us have adventures in space, the jungle and even an opera house!  In Maths, we have being learning about unit and non-unit fractions.  The children have been using their knowledge of numerators and denominators to help them explain the difference. Maybe they could explain it to their families at home?  We leave the science topic of space with an understanding of why we have day and night and what people in New Zealand might be doing when we are getting ready for school.  This was a perfect week to discuss how people celebrate Ramadan in RE.  We wish all our Muslim families a very happy month of festivities.  Please enjoy our pictures of the trip to the Tower of London.
