Come and find out what KS2 are up to!

Year 5

In Year 5 this week we have been developing our persuasive writing further by a piece up as a travel brochure. We have been writing about Prospero’s Island using fronted adverbials, prepositions, similes and metaphors trying to make it as convincing as possible! In Maths we have learnt about percentages and their equivalence in decimals and fractions and thought really hard about how to explain our reasoning when answering longer questions. Science has seen us develop our understanding of materials that dissolve and create a solution. We also carried out an experiment whereby we tested which materials could dissolve into water including: soil, sand, salt, sugar, cinnamon, pepper and flour. In History we looked at Ancient Greek citizens and how they were treated very differently to how they are now, especially the women and girls. We used artefacts to make predictions and observations about how their lives were back then. PE is all about teamwork at the moment and we have enjoyed playing lots of different games using our communication skills!

Year 6

This week we learnt how to read notes that were written backwards with mirrors in science.  In English, we were writing an instructional text about an object that will help us survive in the rainforest.  We have started a new topic converting fractions, decimals and percentages in maths. In PSHE, we learnt about drugs and read a story about a kid who dealt drugs by accident.  We made a food tasting experiment in DT and in history we learnt about Hitler’s plan to invade Britain in Operation Sealion.  In RE, we looked at objects that you might find in a church.

It was an enjoyable week.
