Yokki and his family are travellers, moving with the seasons to find work and sell their wares. After a particularly poor harvest, work is scarce and nobody has the money to buy their traditional crafts.

Yokki is a gifted storyteller and shares inspiring tales of a brighter future with his community. He speaks of a Parno Gry: a magnificent white horse who flies through the sky in search of more fruitful lands. His uplifting stories raise the spirits of his friends and family, helping them to forget their hunger and anxiety.

At this school, the Tom Gates, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Man series of books are extremely popular but once children have read these books they are often left feeling lost. Planet Omar is a fantastic next step from these books and contains that same sense of humour which will get children laughing but with higher level vocabulary and deeper storylines which will get children to push their reading to the next level.

A top tip from one of our inspiring librarians is to engage children in reading by leaving books in the car for them to read during stops. If your child would feel ill doing this then audiobooks through Spotify are a fantastic alternative.
